What’s an EV driver’s biggest fear? Showing up to a charging station that doesn’t work. Failed charging attempts frustrate drivers, tank session revenue, and flood call centers – a double hit to the bottom-line for charging network operators.
ChargeMate set out to improve charging success rates with a 3-month pilot for a large public charging network, adding an AI assistant alongside the incumbent phone line. The goal? Reduce failed charge attempts, lower support costs, and offer drivers instant, accurate help.
ChargeMate’s AI agent was deployed at 82 charging stations across 12 locations nationwide. Drivers accessed support by scanning a station-specific QR code on the station, instantly connecting to an AI-powered chat assistant trained on the network’s hardware, software, and common troubleshooting scenarios.
The AI handled a range of driver concerns, from payment processing issues to charger compatibility questions and escalated to human Support Agents based on the driver’s choice. It also enabled drivers to report damage or other issues triggering a station repair process.
Drivers engaged with the ChargeMate AI agent at a rate that exceeded our expectations and resolved 7 out of 8 driver issues without a human in the loop.
These results demonstrate how AI-driven support can reduce operating costs, increase charging success rates, and improve customer satisfaction at scale. But AI isn’t replacing the role of Customer Support agents, it’s enabling overburdened Support and Ops teams to focus on the harder issues that demand their attention.
As EV adoption rises, charging networks and auto OEMs need to deliver a seamless, reliable experience—where failed charging sessions are rare, and issues get fixed before drivers even notice them. ChargeMate is building that future. Our AI-powered agent detects and resolves errors in real time and ensures 24/7/365 support with infinite scalability.
The result? Higher uptime, fewer failed sessions, and a frictionless charging experience that keeps drivers coming back.
